Since posting about our newly refinished light red oak hardwood floors I am often asked about what paint colors we have in the rest of our home. So I thought I would compile a list of the colors we used in our home that could be considered some of the best paint colors for light hardwood floors.
Our whole house color – Benjamin Moore Dove Wing – best paint colors for light hardwood floors
Finding that perfect white/off-white without any glaring undertones of pink or blue or yellow is TRICKY. Many hours were spent looking up photos of real life homes ( like this one ) with various shades of white before landing on a handful I actually tried in my own home. Ultimately we landed on Benjamin Moore’s Dove Wing and its been six years and we still love it.
Our dining room color – SW Rosemary
I love a cozy dining room, and what better way to add cozy to a space than with board and batten and a beautiful moody color on the walls. As two big fans of green, we ended up using Sherwin Williams Rosemary in this space and think it was the perfect pop of color in our otherwise light and airy home. And bonus points for it looking like one of the best paint colors for light hardwood floors.
our half bath – Benjamin Moore blue spruce
You’ve got the see the before of this one in its original blog post. I wanted this little nook of a bathroom to feel like a quirky space that you might happen upon when you least expect it. Except that probably wasn’t the case because its more likely you were a guest in my house and asked me where the closest bathroom was and I pointed you in this direction.
Nevertheless, I wanted it to feel cozy but more saturated than the rest of the house. I went slightly out of my comfort zone and chose this dusty blue color from Benjamin Moore called Blue Spruce. Seemed fitting since we have blue spruces everywhere here in Colorado neighborhoods.
our kitchen – sw dover white
Just for fun, you should also go check out the before on this kitchen as well. 1988 was a great year, but it definitely wanted its builder grade kitchen back. Thankfully the paint color they had in it originally was very close to the dove wing that we had chosen for the rest of the house. so this space just needed a fresh coat of Sherwin Williams Dover White on the shiplap and we were good to go!
our sons room – Sw dover white walls, sw Meditative ceiling, and sw Tradewind colorblocking
You can see the entire post about his room design here! I love how calming but playful these blue tones turned out in his . Dover white is on the walls with Sherwin William’s Tradewind used as colorblocking in a few spots in the room. The ceiling is the true showstopper and sister picked it out and I think she did an amazing job. Sherwin Williams Meditative is both beautiful and ironic in this little boy’s room, ha!
our baby’s room – Sw urbane bronze
See the whole nursery here! Its moody, its cozy, I committed to it so hard that the room is color drenched in Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze and its lovely.
the kitchen island – behr’s perfect taupe
The all white kitchen needed a little neutral color to break up the stark white. A little can of Behr’s Perfect Taupe was such a lovely way to add a little warm tone into the bright white kitchen and it is without a doubt one of the best paint colors for light hardwood floors.
our daughters room – sw dover white walls and a sw peach blossom ceiling
You can see the entire post about her room design here! Brother got a blue ceiling so it only made sense that sister got to pick a color to put on her ceiling too. She went with Sherwin Williams Peach Blossom and its is the sweetest shade of light pink. I love how this is such a fun and unexpected way to add a pop of color to a room without committing to all four walls.
